New Spraying System for Rolling Specialist Speira

In order to maintain and further improve the high technological standard of its quarto fine strip mill, Grevenbroich-based Speira GmbH has technologically upgraded the fine strip mill. The mill rolls aluminum cold strip in several rolling passes for the lithographic and can product areas. In addition to the modernization of the rolling oil and hot edge equipment and an upgrade of the setup and flatness control, Speira relies on a state-of-the-art spray system from Evertz Hydrotechnik in Betzdorf, Germany.

With its aluminum rolling mill at the Grevenbroich site, Speira GmbH stands for high-quality lithographic, foil and automotive products as well as for the production of cover strips for beverage cans.
Speira is, among others, a supplier for the internationally largest and most renowned manufacturers of aluminum beverage packaging. To meet the high quality requirements, each work roll will be equipped with a four-row spray bar as part of this project. Fast, targeted and precise intervention as part of the flatness control with reaction times in the millisecond range - behind this is the "Coolectro" spray valve from Evertz Hydrotechnik (EHT), which works optimally both in the center zone with an extremely large flow rate and in the narrow edge zones with 26 mm pitch without any significant pressure drop. The configuration chosen by Speira allows individual control of each nozzle. Despite the very limited installation space and the desire to continue using existing connection points, the enormously compact design of the direct-controlled EHT spray system makes it possible to integrate a hot-edge heating row in the work roll spray bar in addition to the three required cooling rows.

The tailor-made design ensures optimum placement of the "i-Jet" nozzle in front of the work roll. The reliably reproducible spray jet generated by the patented i-Jet nozzle enables good prediction of the spray pattern by simulation. The final real-life test on the EHT test stand for validation purposes is a decisive factor for subsequent trouble-free commissioning at the customer's site.
customer. In addition to the two work roll cooling bars, EHT is supplying two back-up roll cooling bars for this project, as well as the control cabinet and the electrical cable harnesses with the latest "i-Con" connection technology.
The excellent technical presentation of the spray system and, above all, the very good and long-standing experience that Speira's joint venture partner Aluminium Norf (especially in its rebuilds of the KW5
and KW2) was a decisive factor in Speira's decision to go deeper into this project with Evertz Hydrotechnik. Already the budget offer prepared in March last year convinced the project managers at Speira due to the wide range of technological possibilities at EHT. Due to the modular design of the system, every customer requirement including the integrated heating row could be realized in a compact four-row spray bar despite the extremely tight installation situation.
